Josep Martí i Pérez.

FOREWORD

The 50th Anniversary of the Department of Musicology of the C.S.I.C. (Barcelona)

Following a suggestion by Higini Anglès, in1944 the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (C.S.I.C) founded the Instituto Español de Musicología. Later renamed Departamento de Musicología, this music research center has had a Folklore section from the very beginning. It had a decisive influence on the organization of ethnomusicological research in the years after the Civil War. Its objectives were the collection, elaboration and publication of Spanish traditional music. A good number of specialists dedicated themselves to this work. Among them we particularily remember Marius Schneider, Manuel García Matos, Arcadio de Larrea, Bonifacio Gil and Josep Crivillé, who are well known in the field of Spanish folkmusic studies.

The present ethnomusicological research team wants this publication to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Departament of Musicology. It is intended as a homage to all those who have done research in the Departament throughout these years, and at the same it hopes to offer the interested public a view of some of the problems that concern our discipline today

The TRANS team wishes to express its thanks to the authors who have contributed generously to the elaboration of this publication.

Josep Martí i Pérez.
