Resumen

El presente artículo aborda las semejanzas musicales y culturales entre el flamenco andaluz y el rebético greco-oriental desde la perspectiva del poder y la búsqueda de la identidad nacional en España y Grecia a partir del regreso a la tradición. El estudio paralelo de ambos géneros se centra en analizar el trasfondo sociocultural de la construcción del moderno folclore musical urbano como elemento identitario a partir del siglo XIX hasta el presente mediante el método comparativo tipológico. A la vez, se pone énfasis en el papel de determinados intelectuales orgánicos en el proceso de sinergia e hibridación musical en ambos géneros que transformó su carácter social, originariamente adscrito a las clases sociales bajas e incluso marginadas, en una manifestación aglutinante, transclasista e incluso transétnica de la música y cultura contemporánea en España y Grecia.

Abstract

This article addresses musical and cultural similarities between Andalusian flamenco and Greek-Oriental Rebetiko from the perspective of power and the pursuit of national identity in Spain and Greece by revisiting tradition. The parallel study of both genres focuses on the analysis of the socio-cultural background and the consolidation of modern urban musical folklore as an identity construction emerged in the 19th century through the typological comparative method. At the same time, the article explores the role of certain organic intellectuals in the process of synergy and musical hybridization in both genres, which transformed their social character, originally attached to low and even marginalized social classes, into a compelling manifestation, transclassist and even trans-ethnic contemporary music and culture in Spain and Greece.
